Digital Preservation Policies

The Universidad Nacional de Loja, is a public higher education institution, through its Editorial committee, sponsors and promotes the journal CEDAMAZ, providing the hosting in its digital environment. CEDAMAZ ensures the intellectual content of electronic archival documents for long periods of time, maintaining their attributes such as integrity, authenticity, inalterability, originality, reliability, and accessibility; this allows safeguarding digital resources for future generations.

Preservation principles

The aim of this Policy is to ensure that the digital resources hosted in CEDAMAZ journal remain authentic and accessible in the future for anyone who needs them. To do so, the threats of rapid technological obsolescence and the inherent fragility of digital media must be countered, providing mechanisms to identify and predict the impacts of those threats on its resources, and plan and execute appropriate preservation strategies to mitigate these impacts. Digital documents are backed up with full copies of the original documents (together with their metadata) that are deposited in the institutional DSpace repository, hosted on different storage platforms, avoiding as far as possible storage on physical media such as hard drives or compact discs that may deteriorate over time resulting in loss of information.

Authenticity.

CEDAMAZ'S digital preservation policy guarantees the authenticity of stored documents based on the following aspects:

Reliability: the backups are complete and accurate copies of articles published in the journal. In this Policy, reliability is guaranteed through the operation of transparent and fully documented preservation strategies and the provision of the necessary metadata to describe the content, context, and provenance of the record.

Integrity:  the backups of the articles and metadata will be under the strict responsibility of the director or editor of the journal, who will be solely responsible for access, who must guarantee that the documents are complete and protected against unauthorized or accidental alterations.

Metadata

Metadata (literally "data about data") is required to support a wide range of activities, including records management, preservation management, cataloging, and resource discovery (ISO 15836, 2009).

The metadata is generated by the author at the time of the submission for peer-review on the journal platform managed with the Open Journal System, this metadata makes it possible to search on the net or in the journal of the main characteristics of the manuscript, such as data. of the author, article data such as subject, date, keywords.
