Municipal Socioeconomic Development: A Reference to the State of Oaxaca 2020

Abstract

This document identifies the determinants of socioeconomic development in the municipalities of Oaxaca. It examines the concept of local socioeconomic development and briefly describes its key factors. As a starting point, it is established that public management, through its expenditures, has an impact on development, as well as other variables. By constructing a Local Socioeconomic Development Index (LSDI), municipalities are classified according to their level of development, and their geographic location is presented to identify behavioral patterns in their distribution. Finally, a multiple regression model using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) estimation technique is applied to analyze the impact of certain variables on local socioeconomic development, as measured by the LSDI. The results indicate that municipalities in the process of development are located on the periphery of those with a high level of development.
