An updated checklist of cacti native to Continental Ecuador is presented, including for the first time common names for all reported species, national distribution maps and the current conservation status based on the latest evaluation carried out by the IUCN. 41 native species are reported, in two subfamilies, seven tribes and 16 genera. Six species and eight subspecies are recognized as endemic to the country. The greatest diversity is concentrated in the southern region between the provinces of Azuay, Loja, and El Oro, with 58.5% of the total species reported. The taxonomic changes of some species that have ocurred in recent years are commented and finally, the situation of five introduced species is analized. The information presented represents a high diversity in relation to the territorial extension of Continental Ecuador.Metrics
