Abstract

Thyroid disorders are a global public health problem, with a high prevalence and a significant impact on quality of life. Self-care and education about these pathologies are essential to improve treatment adherence and prevent complications. The study aims to “Implement pedagogical strategies in the education of patients with thyroid disorders at the "Velasco Ibarra" Health Center during the period, October 2024 - January 2025. A quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out, with a sample of 15 patients and, given the difficulty of access to this population, data collection was carried out through surveys applied before and after an educational intervention using a non-probabilistic snowball sampling. The inclusion criteria were patients over 18 years of age, with a clinical diagnosis of thyroid disorders who give their informed consent. The dimensions evaluated included knowledge of the disease, treatment compliance, self-care in nutrition and exercise, stress management and emotional support. The pre-test results showed a low level of knowledge about thyroid function, insufficient adherence to treatment (20%) and difficulties in managing stress (80%). Regarding the discussion, the importance of educational strategies to promote adherence to treatment, an adequate diet and physical activity was evident. It is concluded that educational intervention has a positive impact on patients' knowledge about thyroid disorders and on improving adherence to treatment and self-care practices.
