Eating disorders (EDs) are complex illnesses influenced by various factors, including self-esteem, and represent a significant challenge in the field of health. This study explored the relationship between self-esteem and the risk of developing EDs in emerging adults at the Faculty of Law, Social Sciences, and Administration of the National University of Loja, during the period from October 2023 to March 2024. A quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive approach was used, with a sample of 319 students selected through simple random sampling. Data collection tools included informed consent, a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Scale, and the SCOFF questionnaire. The findings revealed that 32% of participants had self-esteem within normal parameters, while 52% were not at risk of developing an eating disorder. Statistical analysis using the Chi-square test showed a significant relationship between the two variables (p < 0.001). In conclusion, the level of self-esteem within this population has a direct impact on the development of an eating disorderReferences
