The determination of diagnoses of causes of death makes the necropsy and the legal medical report important to identify the etiology of the deaths. In the present investigation, a descriptive and retrospective study was carried out to determine the main causes of death, whether violent or not, in the city of Loja, determined through medical-legal necropsies as well as the relationship with the age and gender of the deceased. . We analyzed 76 reports of medical-legal autopsies carried out between April and September 2014. The information was taken from the files that are in the State Attorney General’s Office. Once the information was gathered, it was concluded that the traumatic brain injury, the mechanical asphyxia and the asphyxia by immersion were the main causes of death; In addition, the masculine gender is the one with the highest number of decedents.Metrics
