Abstract

This research aims to establish in a statistical and econometric analysis, the determinants of chronic child malnutrition for the Ecuadorian case during 2018. The cross-sectional data were taken from the National Health and Nutrition Survey and the discrete choice model was applied. The results show that the determinant of chronic child malnutrition is the low income of the mother. Likewise, the rural area, education, and family planning are factors that have a significant result in this study. It is concluded that the Bono de Desarrollo Humano is a benefit that helps mothers to improve their nutrition and that of their children, reducing the state of malnutrition. Finally, it is recommended that the central and local government strengthen health centers and programs through child welfare plans, mainly in rural areas.
