Gender-based violence, rooted in unequal power relations, highlights the disparity between men and women and constitutes a global phenomenon. In Latin America, and particularly in Ecuador, this issue remains a serious concern due to the frequency and severity of the violent acts that characterize it. This research aimed to sociodemographically characterize the victims of gender-based violence in the Santa Rosa canton, determine the prevalence and types of violence, with the purpose of designing prevention actions. An analytical study method with a quantitative approach was used, employing observation techniques and data collection from an existing database of a project titled “Power Asymmetry in Gender-Based Violence in the Southern Region of Ecuador.” The results revealed that gender-based violence affects a significant portion of the studied population, with women being the main victims. The most common forms of violence included verbal, psychological, and physical abuse. Furthermore, the most affected individuals were mostly women between 20 and 49 years old, single or in common-law unions, with primary or secondary education levels, and predominantly belonging to the mestizo ethnic group. The findings of this study made it possible to identify critical gaps in the care and prevention of violence in the Santa Rosa community, leading to the design of concrete proposals aimed at raising citizen awareness, training professionals with a human rights approach, and promoting more effective laws. As a result, a direct impact was generated in the articulation of community strategies, showing greater social involvement in the protection of victims and providing a solid basis for future public policies focused on violence prevention. Moreover, this study not only made a latent problem visible but also offered viable tools for its sustainable approach.References
