Peer Review

The editorial process of Bosques Latitud Cero follows a rigorous and structured procedure designed to ensure the quality, originality, and scientific relevance of the published articles.
The editorial workflow is managed through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) web platform, which facilitates and optimizes the comprehensive administration of the editorial process.

  • Selection Process

The selection process is conducted by the editor and begins with a preliminary evaluation of the manuscript. At this stage, compliance with the journal's guidelines is verified, including aspects such as topic relevance, format, structure, and text readability. If the manuscript does not meet these requirements, it will be returned to the author for corrections.

Key evaluation aspects include the application of the International System (SI) standards, as per Ecuador's INEC regulations, and proper bibliographic referencing following the APA 7th edition guidelines.

Additionally, an anti-plagiarism check is performed using specialized software. If the detected similarity percentage (excluding bibliographic references) exceeds 5%, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision and adjustments. Failure to respond to the revision request will result in automatic rejection.

  • Evaluation Process

Bosques Latitud Cero is a peer-reviewed journal that follows a double-blind peer-review process, meaning that both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the evaluation process. This approach minimizes potential biases and ensures an impartial and objective critique.

Reviewers are selected confidentially based on their level of expertise and experience in the subject matter of the manuscript. The journal has an editorial committee, an international advisory board, and a group of highly qualified reviewers in various thematic areas. These experts provide evaluation criteria and suggestions to the editor, who compiles the feedback and forwards it to the authors for consideration and manuscript improvement.

The manuscript evaluation is based on key criteria such as originality, relevance of references, technical rigor, consistency between results and objectives, quality of figures and tables, and clarity of writing.

If an article receives conflicting reviews (i.e., both positive and negative), the editor may request additional evaluations. Based on all received reviews, a final decision is made. The editor, considering the reviewers' comments and recommendations, determines whether the manuscript meets the standards for publication.

Following the peer-review process, articles are classified into the following categories within the OJS platform:

  • Accept Submission: The article is approved without modifications.
  • Revisions Required: Minor adjustments (format) are needed before acceptance.
  • Resubmit for Review: Substantial modifications (content) are necessary for further consideration.
  • Decline Submission: The article does not meet the required standards and is rejected.

For Revisions Required and Resubmit for Review, articles are returned to authors for the suggested corrections. Authors must submit a response letter addressing the reviewers' comments and highlight the changes in the document, facilitating reevaluation.

The Editorial Committee reserves the right to reject articles at any stage to maintain the quality and academic rigor of publications.

  • Publication Process

Articles that pass the selection and evaluation process undergo a final review by the Editorial Committee. At this stage, it is verified that all authors have provided the required submission information (affiliation, ORCID, and contact email) and that quality standards have been met. If additional observations arise, articles are returned to authors for further corrections.

Once approved, articles go through formatting, style, and language review to ensure coherence and clarity. The Editorial Committee determines the order of publication, volume, and issue in which the articles will appear.

Finally, articles are formatted and published on the journal’s website, accompanied by a promotion and dissemination strategy via social media to enhance their visibility and impact.
