Innovation is the most relevant activity that adds value to companies and improves their competitiveness. In this context, software applications have taken great relevance as tools that support the strategy and operations of companies. Consequently, software engineering and innovation are two branches that must align and complement each other to meet current challenges. In this study, articles that address the methods implemented in the development of software products and that are considered innovation methods are analyzed. The method used is the systematic literature review (SLR) of 42 articles published within the last 5 years in the scientific databases Scopus, Springer Link, ResearchGate, EBSCO, and Proquest. Inclusion and exclusion criteria, relevance, quality assessment, and validity of the studies were considered. The findings reflect the activities that are considered innovative in the software development cycle and it is concluded that the challenges open possibilities for the inclusion of artificial intelligence in different phases of the cycle.Metrics
