Abstract

Government policies to stop the spread of contagion of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have changed human behavior. Therefore, this research aims to examine the influence of COVID-19 on the saving of drinking water in homes in the city of Loja during the pandemic. For this, a survey was carried out, the same one applied to 386 homes in the city to determine the environmental behavior they maintained during the pandemic. Subsequently, the information was processed using a Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM). The measurement and structural model were validated to verify the consistency of the results and study hypotheses. The results revealed that COVID-19 is negatively related to saving drinking water, that is, it did not increase the saving of drinking water. Environmental awareness and social norms are also examined in determining potable water savings. Some policy implications are designed based on the results obtained, which are aimed at guaranteeing environmental sustainability.
