Factors that alter the sleep of the inpatient in the Hospital Isidro Ayora of Loja

Sleep is the state of uniform rest of the organism absolutely necessary for an adequate physical and psychic functioning, it favors the regeneration of hormones and cells, memory and the immunological system; however, the pathological processes during hospitalization affect sleep and the favorable evolution in the patient's state of health. The aim of this research was to determine the factors that alter the sleep of the hospitalized patient, in the area of Internal Medicine of the Isidro Ayora Hospital in Loja. We worked with a population of 132 hospitalized patients, to whom a survey based on the Oviedo questionnaire was applied. Resulsts show that among the external factors that "always" alter sleep, lighting reaches 71.21%, smells and noise 53.03%, vital signs taking 71.21% and medication administration 62.12%, whilst the discomfort of the bed (43.95%) and the channeling of peripheral roads (45.45%) were a problem "from time to time”. Among the internal factors that "always" cause sleep disturbance pain (51.52%) and cough/dyspnea (40.92%) were determined, and "from time to time" fever (60.60%). Regarding psychological factors we find that anxiety (62.12%), concerns (59.09%) and fear (56.06%). It is concluded that external factors affect sleep in a greater proportion in relation to internal factors.Metrics
